ANOTHER letter from Europe by Mr Gary Titley MEP, in which he appears to advocate giving up the pound for the euro, because, on our two weeks' holiday, we could use the left-over change over and over again -- that is, should we holiday in Europe.

Lots of people prefer to holiday elsewhere. That being the case, and we think we should give up the pound, why not join the dollar, still the world's strongest currency, acceptable anywhere, and the main currency for world trade?

Britain is not "disadvantaged" by staying out of the euro. We are the fourth largest trading nation in the world, the second nation after the USA for forward investment, and we have the lowest unemployment of any G8 country.

Who should we listen to, should we have to decide to give up the pound? The likes of Mr Titley, who has a vested interest, receiving a salary of some £55,118 a year, plus perks, and very, very generous expenses? Or the likes of Nobel prize winner, Milton Friedman -- perhaps the greatest economist of the 20th century -- who says that we have no need to worry over the euro? It will dissolve within five to 15 years! Give up the pound and we lose control of our own destiny!
