IN reply to Liz Judge from the RCN, who inferred that health care assistants don't check properly (July 31, page 5).

May I say that, after working for 20 years as an auxiliary nurse for the local health authority, I object very strongly that we don't check properly.

We have a wealth of experience under our belts and take our work very seriously, and consequently consider ourselves just as thorough as any member of the so-called trained staff. May I also add, if HCAs and auxiliaries were to pull out of the Royal Bolton Hospital, it would be well and truly in a fine mess.
