IS it a smile of victory? Or is it a grimace of despair? Members of the latest team to take part in the Bolton Evening News great Lancashire Quiz Challenge are pictured with their fingers on the buzzers at a recording which will be broadcast on BBC Radio Lancashire and Radio GMR later this summer.

The team from the King William pub, made up of three retired "gentlemen" and one computer expert took on a team from the Woodman Hotel, Burnley.

Retired teacher Mike Richards was joined by Paul Gradwell and Ted Green also retired, and computer whizz Pete Vickers who all regular feature in the Bolton Premier League and Bank Top Brewer Quiz League.

The quizmaster for all the shows is Bolton's own Norman Prince. Mike said: "It was a very enjoyable night.. Norman runs a good quiz and provides the entertainment."

The Quiz Challenge is being organised through the summer by the Bolton Evening News in conjunction with BBC Radio Lancashire and GMR Radio. Eight teams from the Bolton area will be taking on teams from East Lancashire. The shows are being r corded and then broadcast starting at the end of August.

The next recordings will be held on Tuesday, August 6, at the Cheetham Arms, Blackburn Road, Bolton, where the hosts take on a team from Snape & Co, Printers, Preston; Tuesday, August 27, at the Lord Raglan pub, Halliwell Road, Bolton, when they play Hyndburn Leisure Services from Accrington; Tuesday, September 3, when a team from Westhoughton will be at the Rolls Royce Sports and Social Club at Barnoldswick, and Wednesday, September 4, when an Asda team from Astley Bridge will travel to Poulton-le-Fylde to pit their wits against a team from the Thatched House pub.

Anyone who wants to go along to a recording should turn up early as they start at 8.30pm. The broadcasts will go out on BBC Radio Lancashire and GMR in a Saturday lunchtime spot.
