GERMAN star Fredi Bobic has labelled Wanderers fans as "unforgettable" as he comes to terms with the fact that he will not be returning to the Reebok Stadium.

The striker, whose hat-trick against Ipswich in March effectively kept Bolton in the Premiership, would have cost a sizeable fee from Borussia Dortmund as he still has a year left on his contract at the Bundesliga champions.

Speaking at Dortmund's summer training camp in Austria, Bobic said: "I enjoyed my short stay with the Wanderers and in the end I was proud to have contributed to Bolton's Premiership survival.

"It was a new experience for me to be loaned out to a club in the thick of a relegation battle.

"I would have loved to stay there 'up north', but unfortunately things didn't turned out the way I wanted them to. It's a shame because English football is great. It's much faster than in the German Bundesliga.

"A major difference is the atmosphere at home games. It does give you an adrenalin kick to run out on the pitch and feel the crowd.

"It's hard sometimes to hear yourself think, especially when the team is ahead, or piling pressure on the opponents. Unforgettable."

Bobic has been told to find a new club by Dortmund coach Matthias Sammer, and has not ruled out a second stint in the Premiership even if Bolton are not in a position to sign him.

"I'd love to return," he said. "But it's a matter for any club and Dortmund to sort out. I have a year left on my contract here, and presently the transfer market isn't rosy.

"I would seriously consider moving to an English team if the opportunity was there. I had a great time with Bolton and in the Premiership."
