A GROUP of intrepid Bolton cyclists decided to take on one of the most ultimate challenges -- the famous Lands End to John O'Groats route.
Six set off, but only five came back after one cyclist, Neil Bellemy, lost control of his bike on a bend at Eskdalemuir in the Scottish borders and fractured his vertebrae and a rib and had to be airlifted to Dumfries Hospital.
The others continued the trip, which took nine days, covering a distance of 970 miles.
Their efforts have raised £1,000 for the Bolton-based Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Ian Halliwell, organiser of the cycle challenge, said: "The journey was a great deal of fun and we are all glad we completed it in our nine day target.
"It is sad that Neil was injured but he in the good road to recovery now."
The group would like to thank sponsors, John Deere who provided a mini-bus, Lloyds TSB and MK Cycles.
The group will present the proceeds of the charity ride to the Bolton Guide Dogs Centre this Saturday.
