SANITY at last from G Crowther's letter "Euro MP would have lost money".

A friend of mine, upon his return from Ireland, told me the Irish Punt has been devalued by about 30 per cent, so prices have gone up accordingly.

Joining the euro will cost jobs, not create them.

I overheard a woman in the bank recently criticising the euro, having experienced it during a holiday abroad. This was music to my ears!

I know of no one who is in favour of it, except certain businessmen who buy their goods abroad and benefit, but will not pass it on to the customer.

I was in a pub recently and a friend advised me to spend my money, as it will be useless when we join the euro. This is typical defeatist "grin and bear it" talk, which will play into the hands of europhiles.

I recently stated in a letter that there would be an uproar if we were made by euro-legislation to drive on the right side of the road. Well, I think I'd be wrong. Of course we would welcome this from our elders and betters, and not bat an eyelid.

We Brits will put up with anything. One reader mentioned National Service for criminals. Even if this draconion law was brought back (for all young men), it would be accepted, even after the cold war.
