IT was a night to be proud for members of the Bolton Lads' and Girls' Club.

Not only were many getting their first glimpse of the club's new state-of-the-art, £5 million headquarters, they were also celebrating the achievements of the young men and women who will use it.

Dozens of people turned-up for the 112th Annual Awards Night, joining Bolton mayor Cllr John Walsh and his wife, Christine.

Among the successes were Lee Henderson, David Adams, Andi Trevett, Graham Clegg, Jessica Douglas, Chloe Mason, Leigh-Anne Morton and Nadia Munshi, each acclaimed as Outstanding Members of the Year.

President Ross Warbuton said: "These awards celebrate the fantastic achievements of our members.

"Everyone has pulled together and it is wonderful that the first glimpse some people have had of the building came on a night of celebration."

Single mother Wendy Green, aged 33, praised the club for its work in Bolton. Her son, 14-year-old Aidan has visited the club for seven years.

She said: "I needed somebody to look after Aidan when I went to work and you couldn't find a more trustworthy bunch than at the Club."

Awards were handed out for specific activities such as draughts, snooker, pool, badminton, hockey and table tennis.

Club member Tanya Campbell, aged 17, from Heaton, said: "I was introduced by a friend five years ago and I've loved coming ever since. It's a great place to meet friends. There have been some wonderful success stories here."
