ROB Jackson continued his recent great form as he finished second in the 62nd Annual James Blackley Fell Race at Holmfirth.

The three mile, 600ft ascent course saw Rob finish just 17 seconds behind the local club's fell international Mark Buckingham (20.55).

Rob has now competed in this race seven times, winning three times and being runner-up four times. This performance followed up his victory in last month's Rochdale three day event with three six-mile races (road, multi-terrain and fell).

Last Sunday's tough Skiddaw Fell Race (9m/2700ft) on a very warm humid day saw Rob lead home the Harriers in an excellent sixth place, with team mate Steve Jackson also performing superbly to finish 10th (first V45). Suzanne Budgett ran extremely well for the ladies.

Fireman Terry Orrell continues to set the vet section alight with another scintillating run at the Chorley Harriers four miler finishing Horwich's first counter in 20th (third V45). Fellow vet team-mates Pete Bland, Alan Sweatman and Keith Makin all ran well to make up the Harriers A team. Making a welcome return to racing, after a recent injury, Gaynor Higson did well to finish seventh (first L35).

In the final 5K race in the Chorley Park Series Paul Boardman ran well to finish 15th (third V40). Karen Hutchinson took the L35 award with a fine time of 21.13, closely followed by Barry Allman (V45, 22.32)

Highlights included the U17s winning both the A&B string shot, discus and javelin. Vicky Harold won all her three events (discus A, 24.65m; javelin B, 19.54m; shot B, 9.38m). Janine Mullineaux won the A javelin (29.88m) and A shot (9.42m) and Loretta Barnett the B discus (16.47m). Rachel Thompson was another triple winner with victories in the U17 B string 300m hurdles (51.6), 800m (2.36.9) and long jump (4.36m). Sarah Stephens won the U15 A 75m hurdles (12.9) and Sara Cottam the U17 A high jump (1.55m).
