PAUL Warhurst today signed a new contract with Wanderers.

The 32-year-old agreed his second one-year deal in successive years after talks with manager Sam Allardyce.

Warhurst was one of only two existing Reebok senior stars out of contract this summer and now only club skipper Gudni Bergsson's future remains to be resolved.

Talks with the 36-year-old Icelander began last week.

The Warhurst deal further boosts Wanderers' formidable strength in a midfield department which also includes new signings Jay Jay Okocha and Bulent Akin and existing stars Stig Tofting, Per Frandsen, Ricardo Gardner, Kevin Nolan, Gareth Farrelly, Jermaine Johnson and Bo Hansen.

Allardyce will attempt to add to those resources this week when he opens talks with French star Youri Djorkaeff who was a big hit during a successful loan spell in the latter stages of last season.

Warhurst, a Wanderer for three and a half years, is a major influence on the team when fit and last season he enjoyed his most successful campaign for avoiding injury.

"I am delighted that Paul has put pen to paper," enthused Allardyce. "He is an excellent player who has given a lot to this club over the last few years.

"We are starting to build a healthy squad creating real competition for places in key areas which can only be a good thing for the club."
