A MASSIVE operation to move two of the world's largest industrial dryers out of Bolton is set to cause traffic headaches on Sunday.
The dryers, weighing a total of 298 tonnes, will be taken from Sandusky Walmersly Ltd in Crompton Way to Salford, accompanied by a police convoy.
The two lorries carrying the dryers, each 33 metres long and travelling at 5mph, will leave the plant at 8am and are due to arrive at Broadway in Salford at 4pm.
More than 600 telephone wires and 100 telegraph poles are expected to be removed and reconnected. A minimum of 12 sets of traffic lights and road signs and bollards will also have to be removed temporarily.
The convoy will be followed by four police motorcycle escorts. Various traffic controls will also be in place.
Stephen Bannister, manufacturing manager, said: "This is a very large operation. Motorists should be warned of the traffic congestion."
