CHRISTIE Hospital in Manchester is to get new life-saving equipment after the Government gave £3million to the hospital.
The Christie, which treats Bolton's cancer patients as the region's specialist cancer hospital, is buying four linear accelerators.
The machines use high energy radiation beams to destroy cancerous cells. The hospital will carry out research into radiotherapy while treating patients.
Joanna Wallace, chief executive of The Christie, said: "We are delighted. To offer the best service to patients, we need to have the very best equipment and enough of this equipment to treat increasing numbers of patients."
The hospital will hold its annual open day on Saturday with tours of the hospital, including its new research centre, a main feature.
Visitors to the Withington, South Manchester hospital will experience the official tour by HM The Queen when she visits the hospital on July 24.
Displays and demonstrations will be on offer including a strawberry fayre, tomobla and bric-a-brac.
