AN ATHERTON primary school is about to cause a big splash with the opening of its new library.
The traditional wooden shelves of Hindsford CE primary school has replaced its book room with a sculptured metallic masterpiece with a distinctly fishy feel.
The new shelving has crafted fish designed by the pupils and made by metalsmiths, and is already proving a big hit with the children who are now more keen to read than ever before.
Last year, the Lodge Road school was given the opportunity to bid for money from the Government, to help raise standards in education. Hindsford headteacher, Lindsey Apps said they jumped at the chance and the new arty library seemed just the ticket.
She said: "We thought a good way of raising standards and encouraging more children into the library to read and work on the computers was to make it a more attractive environment."
