A TEENAGE girl had to be rescue after getting stuck 25ft above a fast-flowing brook.

Jenny Kelly, aged 13, of Romiley Drive, Tonge Fold, was hauled to safety by firefighters after she froze with fear and was left clinging to an iron rung above the water.

The Thornleigh Salesian College pupil was with a group of friends on a bridge at the bottom of Colenso Road, Tonge Fold, when she climbed over the guard railings to reach a ring which a friend had dropped.

Friends rang for the emergency services and firemen, paramedics and police rushed to the scene just before 8pm.

Firemen managed to fit the teenager with a special harness by leaning over the rails and fastened her to a line to prevent her falling before lifting her to safety.

Mum, Nicola, said: "She is always getting into scrapes. But I'm just so relieved that she wasn't hurt.

"She came home very shaken but she's back at school today. I told her off. I said that firemen have better things to do."
