CHILDREN from Bolton are taking part in the Greater Manchester Youth Games this weekend. Bolton is being represented in the 10 sports by 375 young people, aged from 11 to 16.
They are competing for honours in cricket, athletics, basketball, hockey, swimming, volleyball, tennis, Rugby Union and League and girls' football. About 40 disabled young people are also competing.
Events are taking place at Horwich Leisure Centre, Robin Park, Wigan, and Wigan Cricket Club.
At Horwich Leisure Centre, there is swimming on Saturday June 15 from 9.30am to 4.30 pm and volleyball Saturday and Sunday from 9.30am to 5pm. The Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton, Cllr and Mrs John Walsh were due to be among the VIP guests. The games, now in their 12th year, are part of the Active Sports Project, funded by the Lottery.
