TWO Bolton MPs have joined forces to campaign against proposals which they believe could see a type of euthanasia made legal.

Bolton North-east MP David Crausby and Bolton South-east MP Dr Brian Iddon are backing a national petition opposing sections of the Lord Chancellor's consultation document "Making Decisions; Helping People Who Have Difficulty Deciding For Themselves" which relate to health care of the sick and elderly.

The Right to Life Petition says the document seeks to extend medical killing by omission, including withdrawal of assisted food and fluid from patients in order to end their lives, even in cases when this is against the wishes of the family or the advance directive of the patient.

The petition wants the withdrawal of food and fluid from patients with the purpose of ending their lives to be outlawed.

The parliamentarians are urging people everywhere to make a stand by signing the petition, protesting to MPs and to the Office of the Lord Chancellor.

In a joint statement the MPs said: "It is essential for people of goodwill throughout the country to take a stand."

The MPs will work with the Right to Life organisation to make a case on this aspect of the law to the European Court of Human Rights.

The Right to Life organisation claims MPs and peers of all parties have joined the campaign to fight against the document's proposals.
