THEATRE and the arts are flying high thanks to a cash boost of £407,000 from Manchester Airport during the financial year 2002 to 2003.
The money from the Airport's art sponsorship programme funded Bolton Octagon's April production of Miss Julie, and is supporting a variety of events at The Met in Bury.
Sponsorship is also being given to Wigan International Jazz Festival, Opera North, The Halle Orchestra and to the series of Cultureshock events running parallel with the Commonwealth Games. In addition to sponsoring individual events, nine districts in Greater Manchester -- including Bury, Bolton, Wigan and Salford -- have also received an allocation of £5,000 for arts initiatives in their area.
