He's all right Jack

BOLTON Anglers held their Pensioners Match on Parkers Reservoir at Bury and plenty of skimmers were caught with the odd bonus fish thrown in. Jack Rogers took the cup this year with a 4lb tench and blades for 7lbs-3ozs. Second was John Armer with an all skimmer bag of 6lbs-6ozs and third was Colin Savage with 2lbs-13ozs. The next Bolton Anglers match is on Sunday. The venue is the Rufford Canal and the draw takes place at Tarleton Boat Yard at 8.30am. To book on ring Dave Hanson on 0161 761 7441.

Ace Pat powers to Nelson victory

LORD Nelson A.C. held their second aggregate match of the season on Birmingham's Windmill Pool at Earlswood and reigning club champion Pat Power made his intentions known for the rest of the campaign. He had nothing to show for the first three hours, but once he found some of the lake's big bream he never stopped catching and a good return of 21lbs-2ozs-8drms caught on feeder fished worm was just enough to take the fattest envelope. Second was Barrie Kaye, who was only one fish away from Pat after using similar methods and he finished with some nice slabs for 20lbs-12ozs-4drms. Third was Trevor Bevin with 17lbs-6ozs-8drms and fourth was Mark Armitage with 12lbs-10ozs-0drms. Sections 'A' 1st. Glynn Kateley 9-9-0, 2nd. S. Booth 6-14-0, 'B' 1st. Mark Farrell 6-2-0, 2nd. Graham Carter 4-13-4.

Super Simon

CARP dominated the Bank Holiday Monday Match on Shore Top Reservoir and cat meat proved to have the pulling power. Simon Stott had a 'purrfect day' when his feline offerings attracted a fine specimen said to be around the 20lbs mark. A few bits more pushed the scales round to a winning 23lbs-10ozs. Second was Marvin Hyde who had a couple of smaller carp in his 15lbs-15ozs return. Third was Kenny Stewert with 8lbs-6ozs. Others: 4th. A, Gerrard 7-11-0, 5th. G. Corfield 7-10-0, 6th. T. Hayes 4-3-0.

Jolly Jimmy

FARNWORTH Anglers organised a Jubilee Match on Blackleach Reservoir at Walkden as part of Walkden Festival Week and Jimmy Taylor found three tench in very festive mood. The unattached angler used the quivertip and the trio turned the scales to a winning 12lbs-5ozs. Bob Fearnhead (Worsley Angling Centre) was second with one tench for 4lbs-0ozs and John Christie was third with 2lbs-8ozs.

Neville's flying start

NEVILLE Gregory wasted no time in last week's open on Doe Hey. Neville was just about to sit down after his first cast of the match when his tip rod went semi-circular. After a typical carp fight a 13 pounder succumbed to the net. He could have almost called it a day at that, but a tench later in the day ensured the match was his when the scales recorded 16lbs-10ozs. Gordon Shorrocks was second with 14lbs-4ozs and Marvin Hyde was third with 13lbs-8ozs. Paul Johnson and Bob Fearnhead took the section prizes.

Bream on show

THE bream are slowly beginning to show on Dixon Green Reservoir with the first three all catching slabs. Ledger methods still continue to be the favoured method. 1st. John Turton, peg 5, 6-12-0, 2nd. Mark Booth peg 9, 3-5-0, 3rd. Stuart Tompkins, peg 6 3-0-0.

Old favourites

THE humble baits proved to be the best attractors in last week's Boat Shed Open as the garden worm and bread offerings got the small carp feeding and ensured a good match with a very close finish. 1st. Dave Williams 17-10-0, 2nd. Alan McAtee 17-8-0, 3rd. Steve Whitworth 15-10-0.
