HOSTS South Korea, in the biggest game in their history, were boosted after 27 minutes when Portugal were reduced to 10 men.

Joao Pinto's double-footed challenge deservedly led to a red card despite futious protesst by the Portugese.

After only winning their first World Cup finals match 10 days ago, South Korea have a great chance of making a first appearance in the knock-out stages.

Portugal, one of the tournament favourites, who have recovered from a shock opening defeat by USA, to beat Poland convincingly 4-0, were struggling against the energetic opposition.

South Korea coach Guus Hiddink said before the game: "There have already been some very memorable moments for us in this World Cup, now we are hoping for at least one more.

"So far they have done some tremendous things and I am proud of them. Now let's have some fun."

A draw will be enough for South Korea, while Portugal must win. USA are playing Poland in the other game now.
