MADI Richardson has refused to forget the country she left behind.

It would have been easy for her to sever all links with Romania when she started a new life in Bolton.

Instead, the plucky 10-year-old has organised fund raising events to help the street children in her home country.

Madi left a Romanian orphanage when she was five and was adopted by Kath and Dave Richardson.

But the Richardsons, of Wythburn Avenue, continue to fight for a better life for the children who roam the streets of Romania, scavenging for food.

On Friday, June 28, Madi will be taking part in a sponsored "sitathon" at the Reebok Stadium -- the home of her favourite football team -- sitting on as many seats as she can in an hour. She will be joined by some of her friends.

Madi's latest sponsored event follows a successful run around the Reebok pitch last year which also raised funds for Romania.

Kath said: "Madi loves to help the Romanian street children and is looking forward to her latest challenge."

Since coming to England for surgery on her disabled arm, Madi has won the hearts of local folk and earlier this year scooped a national Child of Achievement Award for her courage.

Her parents run the Good News for Romania charity and have visited the poverty-stricken country.

A friend of the family, Adrian Yapp, who runs a vocal coaching school in Astley Bridge, is organising a song and dance show to raise money for the charity, on Saturday June 22.

The show, Magic of the Musicals, will be held at the Theatre Church, Seymour Road, Astley Bridge, and will feature songs from hit films and shows. It starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £5.
