MEMBERS of Bolton Choral Union intend to raise their voices in the hope of adding a few notes of their own to the Bolton Coronary Care Appeal.

In a joint event to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee, the Choral Union has joined forces with the Rotary Club of Bolton.

The aim is to not only provide an evening of rousing entertainment in recognition of the Golden Jubilee, but to raise funds for the Coronary Care Appeal.

The Bolton Evening News' backed appeal hopes to raise £1 million to build a bigger heart unit at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

And members of the Choral Union and Rotary Club hope the concert will help boost funds by about £8,000.

Another force joining the event is the Besses o' th' Barn Band.

The band traditionally performs alongside the Choral Union in a Christmas concert. Due to its popularity, Besses' musicians suggested a summer event.

A spokesman for the Choral Union said: "The whole idea came together of course with the Golden Jubilee and we thought why not let the concert raise money for a good cause.

"To raise even more funds we are also looking for sponsorship for the event."

The concert takes place on Saturday, June 29, 7.30pm, at the Victoria Hall on Knowsley Street, Bolton.

The programme promises to be a rousing one, including a mix of traditional coronation music recreating the party atmosphere. It will also include a performance by children from St Peter's Smithills Dean CE Primary School choir. Conductor is Michael Greenhalgh and pianist, Douglas Butters.

Tickets, £9, £2 children, are from Booth's Music on Churchgate (522908), the secretary on 492301, the Town Hall Ticket Centre on 364333, any branch of St Andrews Travel, or from any choir member. They will also be on sale at the box office on the night of the concert from 7pm.
