A LINE-up of talented Royal Northern College of music musicians entertain this Thursday lunchtime at the St Andrew and St George United Reformed Church.

The Carousel String Quartet is the last of three acts to perform in the weekly series of lunchtime concerts.

The Quartet was formed in 1993 by violinist and director, Paula Simpson, while at the Royal Northern College of Music. It consists of one current student and three college graduates, all talented musicians in their own right.

Members Paula Simpson on violin, Sarah Hill on violin, Fiona Petersen on viola and Laura Dowling on violoncello, have all performed individually as freelance professionals within orchestras such as the Manchester Camerata and the BBC Philharmonic at national and international levels.

Their wide-ranging repertoire features music from Bach, Faure, Mozart, Gershwin and Vivaldi through to Mancini and the Beatles.

In addition to giving formal recitals, most recently during Bolton Festival 2001, The Carousel is increasingly sought after for light jazz and classical entertainment at corporate events, hotels and private functions.

Their programme on Thursday will include pieces by Bach, Elgar and Faure.

Admission to the concert, which runs from 12.45pm to 1.30pm, is £1.50. Light lunches are available from 12 noon.
