BELGIUM must now beat Russia to keep their World Cup dream alive after being held by Tunisia in their second Group H match in Oita today.

The Red Devils knew that victory by two clear goals would be enough to put them on top of the group, but now they are in danger of going home early.

Marc Wilmots gave his side the perfect start, but Raouf Bouzaine's glorious free-kick denied them and gave Tunisia a point and an outside chance of reaching the second stages themselves.

Friedel spot on for USA

BLACKBURN Rovers keeper Brad Friedel saved a penalty to put the USA on the brink of qualification for the second phase after their 1-1 draw with South Korea.

Friedel not only saved a first half penalty from Lee Eul Yong but made a string of wonderful saves to keep his country in with a change of progress from the intriguing Group D.

The penalty was harshly awarded and Friedel said: "I didn't think it was a penalty, their player was pulling Jeff (Agoos), but I don't want to have a go at the referee because I felt he did okay."

He added: "We are delighted with the point. If anyone had said before the tournament that the USA would have four points after the first two games and be on the brink of qualifying, nobody would have believed them."

The USA now go into their final group match against Poland with a very real chance of qualifying - as have Korea who must overcome an ageing Portugal.

FT Portugal 4 Poland 0

Portugal found a new hero when their striker Pauleta ended Poland's World Cup with a superb hat-trick.

After their defeat by the USA Portugal needed a new star - and the Bordeaux striker, joint top scorer in France last season - answered the call.

With Luis Figo looking sharper, though nowhere near his best, and a much-improved defence marshalled by Fernando Couto, the Poles were rarely in the hunt.
