I WOULD like to point out yet another car parking problem in the town, regarding the Octagon car park (at the side of the DSS street level).
On Saturday, June 8, I, along with many many others, received parking tickets for parking in the car park.
It has long been the normal practice, over many years, that if all the bays were full then you were allowed to park your vehicle (providing that you paid the relevant parking fee) along the side of the pavement adjacent to the DSS building, providing that you did not cause an obstruction. I even asked one of the one of the parking attendants while he was emptying the ticket machine if this was allowed and he said yes.
You can imagine the outrage caused among the owners of the vehicles, including a few disabled drivers, when we returned to our cars to find that parking tickets had been placed on our screens.
I, for one, intend to appeal against my having received this parking fine.
Maybe if the people who owned the car park went to the site and assessed it and put double yellow lines along the aforementioned stretch to act as a deterrent, instead of the parking trap that it is at the moment.
