NUCH concern has been expressed in recent years over the very low turnouts in local elections.
Might I suggest that the reason for this is not unconnected with the story "Residents lose battle over hotel" (Bolton Evening News, Friday, June 7).
Despite being turned down by Horwich Parish and Bolton Metro Councils, planning permission for the Chorley New Road hotel was granted, on appeal, by a central government inspector.
Why should even the most ardent democrat bother voting for bodies who have absolutely no power to effect matters within their sphere of authority?
