MORE than two-thirds of men in the North-west do not understand the off-side rule in football, researchers claim.
They say 65 per cent of fans in towns like Bolton will have heated rows with their friends during the World Cup -- despite not knowing what they are talking about.
Women in the region have even less soccer knowledge, according to a survey by a national newspaper. It says nine out of ten women in Lancashire and Greater Manchester do not know about the off-side rule.
A quarter of men who took part in the survey said they would spend more time with their wives and girlfriends if they knew more about football.
