LIKE most, The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association is looking forward to the extended celebrations over the Golden Jubilee Bank Holiday.

However, Guide Dogs is reminding readers to take extra care of their eyes in the sun during the festivities, by wearing sunglasses that are safe, as well as stylish.

The charity is urging everyone to look out for the CE mark when buying sunglasses -- the best indicator of protection from ultra-violet light.

Over-exposure to UV rays can lead to a number of eye problems, including an increased risk of cataracts. Light is strongest in the middle of the day, so take extra care at that time and remember that UV light isn't blocked out by clouds.

Guide Dogs' forthcoming eye health awareness campaign "Shades for a Day" on Tuesday, July 16, will highlight these and other messages.

We hope your readers will support the campaign. For further information call 0118 983 8228 for a free registration pack, or log on to www.shadesforaday.org.uk

Wishing all your readers a fun-filled, enjoyable and safe Golden Jubilee!
