A NEW Code of Conduct has been introduced for Councillors.
The strict guidelines, which also apply to those who are appointed to vote on council committees, affect councillors across the country. Just like MPs, Councillors have to declare their interests and register any hospitality or gifts that they receive.
A new national Standards Board for Local Government has been set up, and any alleged failure to observe the new code will be considered by the Board.
A similar new national code of conduct for council officers is being drawn up and is expected to be introduced later this year.
A copy of the revised code is available at the First Floor Reception in Bolton Town Hall.
