Leigh RMI 0 Yeovil 1by David Magilton

LEIGH badly misfired again in front of their home fans as they failed to sign off at Hilton Park in style.

Manager Steve Waywell has made it clear that neither he nor his players like to play on the bumpy pitch and the results speak for themselves.

The Railwaymen have won just six times at home this season and the four defeats they have suffered in the last 17 games have all been at Hilton Park.

RMI could and should have made it seven wins against high-flying Yeovil, who despite playing their fourth game in a week showed no signs of fatigue, urged on by the incentive of a Trophy Final spot and the possibility of securing third spot in the Conference.

RMI had the better of the chances with Marcus Hallows hitting the crossbar with a powerful drive and firing over with an open goal begging. Town's young keeper Chris Weale produced a couple of superb saves to deny Andy Heald and Michael Twiss, who if speculation concerning his future is correct will have played his last game at Hilton Park in a Leigh shirt.

Yeovil showed why they have lost only two of their previous 22 games. They produced a professional display and took their chance well in the 13th minute. Lee Johnson crossed and Francis Kumbur's powerful header gave Mark Westhead no chance.

Waywell said: "My players worked so hard for each other.

"People don't realise the quality of sides we are up against. What we have done this season is unbelievable. We are a part-time outfit but have stayed in the Conference for two seasons. Compare that with Stalybridge who are full-time and have been relegated after one season. What we have achieved is tremendous, I just wish we got the credit we deserved."
