Harwood Meadows School was founded in 1970 and, following a fire when the school was completely destroyed, had to be re-built.
The school has two playgrounds and a large playing field and encourages its pupils to take part in netball, rounders, cross-country and swimming galas.
It also has an active Parents Teachers Association (PTA) which supports the school and organises Christmas fairs, discos and recently paid for an author to visit the school to deliver talks on various books.
The PTA has also bought the school a new television, DVD player and video recorder.
The community is very important to Harwood Meadows and the youngsters often visit local places of interest -- Sweetloves Water Treatment Plant, Smithills Hall and Harwood Library. It also raises money for charity and is currently looking to become involved in the "Adopt a Business" initiative.
