Man of the Match

YOURI DJORKAEFF

THE game needed a touch of real class and the Frenchman provided it. He had a hand in the goal, curled a free kick against the bar and showed terrific skill to set up Ricketts for the "goal" that might have earned Wanderers all three points.

Magic Moment

THE offside flag meant it counted for nothing but Djorkaeff's quality set-up and Ricketts superb finish came at the height of Wanderers' dominance and would have been a worthy winner in any game.

Moan of the Match

THE two "offside" judgments might well have been spot on but referee Messias and his assistants frustrated the players and riled the supporters with their general handling of the game.

KICK BY KICK

4 mins: N'Gotty seems to be toying with Sheringham to the delight of the Wanderers' fans.

GOAL!

8 mins: Wanderers are caught square on the halfway line and Iversen takes advantage, racing onto Poyet's pass and rounding Jaaskelainen.

18 mins: Frandsen's long range drive is on its way in until Keller gets his fingertips to the ball.

30 mins: N'Gotty delivers a peach of a pass but Djorkaeff surprisingly squanders the chance, taking his eye off the ball at the crucial moment.

40 mins: Jaaskelainen does well to get down and smother Sherwood's header on his goal line.

41 mins: Sheringham slices a shot wide after ghosting in on Iversen's cross to the back post.

42 mins: Iversen gets a touch on Taricco's cross but the ball flashes across the face of goal.

45 mins: Wanderers are stretched, Spurs have men to spare and Davies looks certain to score until Frandsen gets back to block the shot.

Half-time:

Wanderers 0 Spurs 1

62 mins: Ricketts is just a toe-cap away from poking the ball over the line as Holdsworth makes a nuisance of himself in a goalmouth scramble.

70 mins: Wanderers are carved open; Sherwood makes the break, Poyet feeds Rebrov but the £11m misfit fluffs the chance to seal it for Spurs.

71 mins: The pressure finally pays off; Whitlow gets a head to Djorkaeff's lobbed pass, Thatcher misses a routine clearance and Holdsworth pounces to beat Keller at close range.

72 mins: Whitlow shows great determination to get an important block on Anderton.

80 mins: Djorkaeff works his magic and Ricketts finishes superbly but the flag is up for a marginal offside.

85 mins: Djorkaeff is inches away from winning it, curling a free kick against Keller's crossbar.
