A FORMER escort girl's daughter discovered the body of businessman Danny O'Brien in the bloodstained master bedroom of their home.

The three-year-old then went downstairs and asked her mother, Jan Charlton: "Mummy. What's all that red in the bedroom?"

Bolton-born Mr O'Brien, aged 40, was found dead in the bedroom of the house he shared with Charlton and her daughter, Amy, now aged four, at Woodside Hall, The Old Woodyard, Midgley, West Yorkshire.

He had a large axe embedded in his head and was wearing a gag, blindfold and handcuffs. Charlton, aged 36, has admitted killing Mr O'Brien but denies murdering him, claiming he provoked her and she was acting in self-defence after he threatened both her and her daughter.

Paramedic Angela Armitage told Leeds Crown Court she went upstairs at the mansion with a colleague, but it was obvious there was nothing she could do for Mr O'Brien. She told the court Charlton sat in the ambulance with her and was very upset.

The paramedic said: "She said the little girl had gone upstairs and come back to her and said: 'Mummy, what's all that red in the bedroom?'"

The Court had earlier heard how Charlton had told a friend that she and Mr O'Brien were interested in sex toys, mentioned wife swapping and how Mr O'Brien liked watching her have sex with other men. He is also alleged to have kept a "sex kit" of toys and uniforms.

In a statement read to the court Pc Andy Rogers said he spoke to Charlton shortly after her boyfriend's body had been discovered.

She told the officer she had been to a park with a friend but had to be back at 5pm so her ex-husband could pick up her daughter.

Charlton said she had told her daughter to go upstairs to see her boyfriend with a view to kissing him goodbye before she left.

The officer said: "She stated the daughter had gone upstairs only to return to the top of the stairs to ask why has Danny got a red jam on his head."

Charlton went on to tell the officer she found her boyfriend lying face down in the bedroom. She decided not to go further into the bedroom but ran to an upstairs landing window where she banged on the glass for her ex-husband to help.
