BOLTON Harrier Andy Parker took the honours in Sunday's Bolton 10k road race.
Parker trailed leader Andrew Jones from Salford Harriers who was 100m ahead of the quality field after two kilometres.
At this stage Parker, fresh from overseas training, started to close him down.
Once he had caught his man Parker stayed on his shoulder until two kilometres from home when he steadily pulled away to win the race in the second fastest time in its history of 31 minutes 8 seconds, just three seconds outside the course record.
Jones finished second with Andy Bowles a close third.
Horwich RMI Harriers were led home by Adrian Selby in fourth with recent recruit Paul Muller fifth and first V45.
With Paul still ineligible to count for the team, Horwich were thwarted in their effort to take the mens team prize by one point from Bolton.
Dave Townsend finished sixth with Richard Smith 11th.
Leigh Harriers' Ann Powell won the women's race in 36.14 with Bolton Harriers' Liz Proctor third in 39.05.
In the women's team event Lostock finished second with Bolton Harriers third.
Nine Horwich Harriers took part in the London Marathon. Colin Rigby finished 196th, bettering his personal best by nearly three minutes in 2.40.39.
Super vet Tony Hesketh recorded 3.08.34, Malcolm Whitehead (V55) 3.35.40, Steve Baines (V40) 3.44.36. The club's first lady was Cath Maleney in 4.29. Marie Holden (L35) in 4.51, Jane Houghton 4.52 and Linda Glover 4.52.
