Tyldesley Rugby Club's players and officials where left kicking their heels

in frustration as their scheduled league game at home to neighbours De La

Salle was called off by league officials at the last moment. League

officials ordered De La Salle to travel to promotion contenders Carlisle

instead of making the trip to Tyldesley to catch up on a backlog of

postponed games, a move which angered Tyldesley Club officials who had

arranged sponsorship for the game months ago.

Fred Eckersley, Tyldesley's Sponsorship Officer commented, "We have lost

nearly £300 on sponsorship alone plus what would have been a sizeable bar

turnover for a local derby played on a fine spring day". Club Secretary

Howard Hughes added "The RFU Mission Statement includes the line "'To

promote and govern rugby union in England through maintaining stable

structures for the game", I fail to see how you can have a stable structure

if the league programme can change overnight at the behest of one or two

league officials".

HTYLDESLEY are to lodge a complaint after their home fixture with De L Sale was called off by league officials at the last moment. The visitorts were forced to play another game becauseof a fixture backlog.

Tyldesley Knights all but secured the league title with a 26-7 away victory at De La Salle, while the Dragons came back from 18-12 half time deficit to record a 36-18 win over neighbours Atherton.

First half tries from Sean Tyrer and Karl

Greenhalgh where added to in the second half by Adam Fetherston (2) Tyrer

again and Howard Hughes.
