A PENSIONER who was given dialysis treatment died after complications with equipment caused internal bleeding, an inquest was told.
Florence May Cook, aged 81, of Ryelands Court, Westhoughton, died on November 14 last year at the Renal High Dependency Unit at Hope Hospital where she was undergoing treatment following kidney failure.
Mrs Cook, an active, busy lady, raised thousands of pounds for the Gauchers Association and for the Willink Unit, at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Pendlebury.
She was given steroids and also had a dialysis line, which had been inserted in her jugular, replaced.
When the line became blocked, staff replaced the line again, this time inserting it in her groin.
Dr Roy Stephen Reeve, who performed the post-mortem examination, said that the instruments used to insert the new line had caused a tear in the vein, which had caused internal bleeding into the abdomen.
Bolton Coroner Jennifer Leeming recorded a verdict of misadventure.
