A PLAQUE has been unveiled on the side of a Bolton casino in recognition of its preservation as the finest Georgian building in the town.
The Bolton and District Civic Trust provided the plaque in memory of its former executive member, the late W E Brown. It has been placed on the side of the Stanley Casino in St Georges Street. The unveiling ceremony was performed by the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Kevan Helsby, and the Mayoress, Mrs Alice Kilcoyne, at the casino, a former Wesleyan Chapel building dating from 1803.
Brian Tetlow, chairman of the local Civic Trust, said: "The building is a charming and tranquil example of such buildings of this period and testimony to the devotion of the religious community of the day."
The building suffered neglect some years ago but was rescued by W E Brown and continuously preserved by the directors of Stanley Casino.
