Wanderers enjoy a weekend off but things still go well on the survival front with Derby surrendering a 2-0 lead before going down 3-2 at home to Newcastle and looking almost doomed while Everton slip-up, held 2-2 at home by Leicester, and Sunderland are beaten 1-0 at home to Liverpool.

SUNDAY

AS a tabloid report claims Wanderers have put Michael Ricketts up for sale at £10 million, the Reebok top scorer wins the recognition of his fellow professionals, finishing runner-up behind Newcastle's Craig Bellamy in the PFA's Young Player of the Year poll.

MONDAY

SAM Allardyce slams the Ricketts speculation insisting: "Michael is going nowhere". Jussi Jaaskelainen withdraws from the Finland squad for their friendly international in Macedonia, complaining of a stiff back. Wanderers promise to treat "with the utmost importance" reports of disturbances at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, where a number of the squad spent a golfing break last week. It is revealed that Colin Hendry's wife, Denise, is in a critical condition in an intensive care unit. Wanderers ask the media to respect his family's privacy.

TUESDAY

PER Frandsen's World Cup hopes appear to hinge on a half-hour runout in Denmark's friendly against Israel.

WEDNESDAY

ALLARDYCE says talks with his out-of-contract players are on hold until Wanderers' destiny is decided. Dean Holdsworth, continually being linked with a move to Luton, says he will sit down and discuss his future with Wanderers at the end of the season. Henrik Pedersen rejoins Silkeborg on a month's loan to help his old club in their relegation fight. Youri Djorkaeff's World cup hopes are boosted by a starting place in France's scoreless draw with Russia. Per Frandsen plays the last 20 minutes of Denmark's 3-1 victory over Israel and Kostas Konstantinidis plays in Greece's scoreless draw with the Czech Republic.

THURSDAY

SAM Allardyce uses revenge as his motivation ahead of the Spurs game which could secure the victory he believes Wanderers still need to guarantee their Premiership safety. "We have a fed scores to settle," the manager says looking back on the three defeats at White Hart Lane in two mid-season months.

FRIDAY

PHIL Brown hails Sam Allardyce as a Premiership trendsetter for showing what can be achieved on a shoestring budget. "He has set a precedent for other managers to follow," says the Wanderers' assistant manager.
