TOTTINGTON UTD...0 ACT ACADEMY AUSTRALIA...1:THOSE Tottington folk who made the journey to Todmorden for United's game against the Australian Under-17 side must have left Yorkshire well pleased.

The game was an excellent advert for football, well refereed by a man who seemed to enjoy the occasion as much as the players, a rare occurance these days!

United took the game to their young opponents but the Aussies' well marshalled defence soaked up the early pressure and it soon became apparent that all their players were comfortable on the ball.

In that early spell both Johnson and Sasimozicz had seemingly legitimate penalty claimes turned down the Elsworth had two angled drive just off target.

Three names to remember in the Aussie side are Barisic, Ivanic and Podrotta and it was the former who had the best effort of of the first half when United backed off and allowed him to test young Tottington keeper Matt Land from twenty-five yards.

Although the first shot was too hot to handle Land followed up to save bravely at the Aussie's feet.

The only goal of the game came following a spell of sustained Tottington pressure when a series of corners were thwarted and the tourists broke down the left.

A shot from Anstey took a deflection off Davies and Land was left with no chance.

United battled to the end. Richards had another penalty claim turned down and luck was with the tourists in three goalmouth melees.

Tottington had matched their young opponents with some excellent possession football but the honours went to the oldest player on the pitch, Paul Briggs who covered every blade of grass in the Tottington cause.

United would like to thank Todmorden Boro for their excellent hospitality.
