OLDER people in Little Lever and The Haulgh have a new place to go, thanks to the opening of a new day care centre.
The centre, on Kershaw Avenue, offers all sorts of activities from music therapy to card games and support packages to help people stay living independently in their own homes for longer.
It also extends the hand of friendship to elderly people, many who are isolated with no family or friends in the area, or they can just enjoy social contact with others their own age.
Men and women attend on a weekly basis with varying levels of support needs.
The centre also provides a much-needed break from caring responsibilities for the hundreds of families who provide round the clock care for elderly relatives.
Ward Councillor Anthony Connell officially opened the centre with Cllr Cliff Morris, Bolton Council Executive Member for Social Services and Health.
"We realise that Little Lever was not particularly well served in neighbourhood facilities for older people which is why we looked at how things could be improved," said Cllr Connell.
