THEY lived at opposite ends of the country and led very different lives.
One had a palace in London and an army of servants -- the other lived in a house in Farnworth and a trusty team of home-helpers.
But when centenarians Elsie Wood and the Queen Mother died on Easter Saturday they were both sorely missed.
The 101-year-old Queen Mother was a royal who had a role at the heart of the nation. And 102-year-old Elsie was a former factory paperbag hand who gave up work to care for her parents.
But they both lived through two world wars and shared many of the same experiences during a century of change.
Elsie's friend and executor David Wrennall said: "Even though they never met they were two ladies of the same era. They saw the same events, witnessed the same inventions and survived two world wars."
Elsie's funeral service will be held in the West Chapel at Overdale Crematorium at 2.30pm on Thursday.
