BEN comment: WHILE the mood of the nation -- and many nations across the world -- was today necessarily sombre for the funeral of the Queen Mother, it was still a time for celebration.
A celebration of a life well lived and well loved.
The thousands who waited patiently for hours along the miles leading to Westminster Hall to pay their respects as she lay in state proved the special warmth we hold for her.
And, at 11.30am this morning, as life across the land stopped for a few brief minutes, it was time to reflect on a special monarch.
For, although Royal Family have often been criticised over the past couple of decades, they are still part of a very British tradition. They still represent a nation and its history, and they can still draw the attention of people around the globe.
From those witnessing the spectacle in London to the millions more watching TV coverage at home and elsewhere, the message is clear: there is still a place in our hearts for the very best of the monarchy.
And Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother -- with her life of service and smiles -- was that.
We salute her passing. We shall not see her like again.
