THE sun was shining on the Tenerife Four at Doncaster as they rose to the top of the Bolton Evening News Naps table with an 11-1 winner on the opening day of the competition.
Their choice - Falcon Hill - ridden by Royston Ffrench, was a one-length winner from Needwood Blade, with 7-4 Fav Orientor, a popular choice by several Naps teams, a neck behind.
Straight into second place go The Archers whose 9-1 shot Ellen Mooney was an easy three-length winner of the 2.20 for jockey Paul Eddery.
But all the teams teams missed a great chance to open up a commanding lead on the first day with no less than three of the seven races on the card going to 33-1 shots.
Intellibet One won the first race, Zucherro won the big race of the day, the Lincoln Handicap, while Lady of Gdansk clinched the 4.40.
Two hundred teams are taking part in the Anthony Axford sponsored competition, with a first prize of £500 to the winners.
BET OF THE WEEK: Falcon Hill, 11-1 winner of the 4.10 at Doncaster, picked by the Tenerife Four.
NAPS FAVOURITE: Double Honour the 4-6 ON Fav winner in the 2.55 was picked by Eaton Tappers, Paul's Piano, Atherton Colls FC, Gary Lineker FC and Mollie's Marvels.
BIG LOSERS: Faithful Warrior, second favourite in the Lincoln, finished unplaced, and Orientor, the 7-4 Fav, which finished third in the 4.10, were both a popular selection on opening day.
