FIRST of all, I must say how pleased I am that Manchester City have recovered so swiftly from last year's relegation to attain a guaranteed automatic promotion to the Premiership.

Kevin Keegan has performed wonders but has this wonderful image of being all things to all men.

So why would he not allow Paul Ritchie to come on loan to Bolton Wanderers when he hardly plays for City's first team these days?

When Bolton was going for promotion last season, Alex Ferguson and Joe Royle were rooting for the Wanderers. Now, when Bolton were desperately short of defenders after the Derby game, when Stalwarts Gudni Bergsson and Mike Whitlow were injured, City turned down Bolton's request.

Fortunately, Bolton have since signed Kostas Konstantinidis and Mike Whitlow has made a miraculous recovery. Hopefully Wanderers will escape relegation and have a second year in the Premiership, fulfilling Tony Blair's prediction that there will be three Greater Manchester teams in the Premiership. Nice one, Tony.
