Wanderers 4, IPSWICH TOWN 1

WANDERERS (4-4-2)

JUSSI JAASKELAINEN ... 7

Few direct shots to deal with; helpless to prevent the goal but his handling was almost faultless.

ANTHONY BARNESS ... 8

His mistake let Ipswich in for the goal but his block on Miller at 1-0 was vital.

BRUNO N'GOTTY ... 8

Always classy and composed, as he has been so often; a cool head, especially in the second half.

MIKE WHITLOW ... 7

Steady, solid, unspectacular; all the qualities that have made him such an asset.

SIMON CHARLTON ... 7

Three wins out of four as captain; no-one could have been more proud or looked happier.

YOURI DJORKAEFF ... 8

'World class' was stamped on everything he did, from start to finish; deserved his goal.

KEVIN NOLAN ... 7

Helped Wanderers control the first half then contain Ipswich in the second; good all-rounder.

PAUL WARHURST ... 6

He was looking so good - so 'Paul Warhurst' - until his injury; desperately unlucky.

Ricardo Gardner ... 7

Caused so much trouble with his surging, counter-attacking runs; another unfortunate casualty.

FREDI BOBIC ... 9

The first ever Premiership hat-trick by a Bolton player; his finishing was devastating.

ROD WALLACE ... 8

A typical 'Jack in a Box' display. No goals but a big contribution from the little fella.

Subs: Per Frandsen (8) for Warhurst 23 mins, Michael Ricketts(7) for Gardner 44 mins, Dean Holdsworth for Bobic 80 mins. Not used: Kostas Konstantinidis, Kevin Poole.

IPSWICH TOWN (4-4-2)

ANDY MARSHALL ... 5

The finishing was excellent but he did not inspire much confidence behind a woeful defence.

FABIAN WILNIS ... 6

All at sea first half but offered an outlet on the right as Ipswich rescued some pride in the second.

JOHN McGREAL ... 5

All his experience counted for nothing in that first half rout; a performance out of character.

MARK VENUS ... 5

Passed a morning fitness test but was clearly not 100 per cent fit; withdrawn at half time.

HERMAN HREIDARSSON ... 6

Did a lot of complaining, which suggests the defeat hurt; at least there was some passion there.

FINIDI GEORGE ... 5

Town fans say he's been an expensive failure; did nothing here to change their minds.

TOMMY MILLER ... 7

Could be a big player for Ipswich in the future; looked a good young talent in difficult circumstances.

MATT HOLLAND ... 6

This clearly hurt the captain but he could do little to stop what was happening first half.

SIXTO PERALTA ... 5

Burley needed him to be much more solid, defensively, in the first 45; didn't make the second.

MARCUS BENT ... 6

The former Blackburn man would have had more joy running into brick walls; kept trying nonetheless.

ALUN ARMSTRONG ... 6

Not a sniff of a chance first half but did as much as anyone after the break to salvage some honour.

Subs: Marcus Stewart (6) for George (h-t), Jamie Clapham (6) for Peralta (h-t), Titus Bramble(6) for Venus (h-t). Not used: Martijn Reuser, Mike Salmon.

Referee: Jeff Winter (Stockton-on-Tees).

Attendance: 25,817.

Goals: Wanderers - Bobic 2 mins, 30 mins and 38 mins, Djorkaeff 35 mins; Ipswich - Clapham 90 mins.

Shots/headers on target: Wanderers 6, Ipswich 5.

Corners: Wanderers 1, Ipswich 8.

Offsides: Wanderers 2, Ipswich 1.

Fouls committed: Wanderers 11, Ipswich 10.

Man of the Match

FREDI BOBIC

The match ball was a bonus - he didn't expect that - but, after scoring that stunning and vitally important first half hat-trick, he could have had the freedom of the borough if he'd wanted it. He'd waited so long for his first goal for Wanderers but now they are coming in threes.

Magic Moment

He said it was "easy" but when Bobic glanced Ricardo Gardner's corner past the despairing Marshall for his third and Wanderers' fourth there really was no way back for Ipswich and a crucial victory was secured.

Moan of the Match

Burley had every reason to lambast his players for such an abject first half performance. All the world knew this was a "do-or-die" game for the Tractor Boys but they looked like they'd already given up the ghost.
