Wanderers 4, IPSWICH TOWN 1:"THE Whites are staying up!" echoed round the Reebok as a Fredi Bobic hat-trick - the first ever by a Bolton player in Premiership football - helped secure a win that should guarantee Sam Allardyce a place in history.

The man who brought the German international to the Reebok, along with French World Cup winner Youri Djorkaeff - the other goalscorer in the decisive first-half rout - is on course to become the first Bolton manager to secure a second successive season of Premiership football.

Bobic, who scored in the second, 30th and 38th minutes and had a hand in Wanderers' third from Djorkaeff on 35 minutes, left the field to a standing ovation 10 minutes from the end.

Ipswich, who are now six points behind Wanderers with just four games to play, were effectively out of it at half-time and, although they restored a semblance of pride in the second half, they couldn't find a way through a dogged Wanderers defence until the last minute when substitute Jamie Clapham scored their consolation.
