SIX elderly people were evacuated from a wing at a home for the elderly early today after a fire started in a lounge.
A member of staff at Firwood House, in Glaisdale Street, Astley Bridge, spotted smoke coming from the first floor at 2.15am.
It is thought that one of the residents had not put a cigarette out properly and it set fire to an armchair.
