MP Brian Iddon is spearheading a campaign to raise awareness of Down's Syndrome amid claims that people are suffering from medical discrimination.

The Bolton South East MP has launched a website to promote better training for medical students to change attitudes towards those with the chromosome disorder.

Dr Iddon has welcomed the initiative, a joint venture between the Down's Syndrome Association and the London-based St George's Hospital Medical School.

He has been campaigning against what he describes as discrimination against Down's patients in the NHS.

Dr Iddon said: "This is about changing attitudes of those professionals who work in the NHS and discriminate against people with learning difficulties. We are on a long road and we have reached a significant milestone with the launch of this web site."

The website is at www.downs-syndrome.org.uk

Dr Iddon said he was trying to change attitudes and admitted that it would not happen overnight.

He added: "We will continue to campaign for better treatment of these patients when they are treated within our NHS. They must not be regarded as second class citizens!"

The website provides vital information about people with learning disabilities and is available at www.downs-syndrome.org.uk
