YOURI Djorkaeff says he is hoping to go straight into the Wanderers' attack at St Mary's on Saturday.

Despite being redundant for most of the season at Kaiserslautern, the French star has assured Sam Allardyce he is match fit and ready to make an impact on the Premiership.

While shunned by his previous boss Andreas Brehme, Djorkaeff maintained his fitness.

"I still worked very hard because my ambition was always to get in to the French World Cup team," the star recruit explained. "So I trained twice as hard as all the other players, more than my club expected me to do.

"My body is fit and I want to prove that on the pitch at Bolton."

Wanderers defied the weather to give Djorkaeff his first taste of English football yesterday.

Torrential rain and a heavy pitch forced Allardyce to scrap plans to play Burnley in a private friendly at the Reebok. But the Bolton boss was so determined to give the French attacker a runout before Saturday's crunch clash that he switched the game to the Euxton training HQ.

Djorkaef was given half an hour to acclimatise himself in a strong Wanderers line-up that included Tofting and two trialists.
