A WOMAN had her V-reg BMW car-jacked by a man who threatened to shoot her, a court heard.

Patricia Sutton was putting the shopping into her car at Iceland in Leigh when Darren Edwards allegedly approached her and demanded the keys.

At first, Mrs Sutton thought he was joking, but he warned: "You had better give me the car or I'll shoot you," and he put his hand in his pocket as though he had a gun.

Terrified Mrs Sutton handed over her keys and the car was driven off at high speed.

As he drove off Edwards appeared to deliberately ram another vehicle twice, injuring the driver, Brian Marshall.

Edwards, aged 26, of Clarence Street, Atherton, appeared at Bolton Crown Court to stand trial.

He is charged with affray and aggravated vehicle taking on May 25 last year. He denied both charges.

The court heard that police had a good description of Edwards and later spotted the stolen car parked next to the Bongs Tavern in Tyldesley.

They went inside and arrested Edwards, who was wearing clothing very similar to the man witnesses had described.

After a struggle, they managed to restrain him with handcuffs. They searched him at the police station and the car keys were found in his pocket.

Police forensically examined the driver's seat in the BMW and matched them with fibres taken from the clothes Edwards was wearing when arrested.
