BOLTON women are five times more likely to give a nickname to their cars than men, a straw poll has revealed.

The poll carried out by car rental company Europcar, showed the majority of women give their cars a comical male name such as Percy, Willy or Reg or a name matching the first letter of the model of the car, such as Casper the Corsa.

Men willing to admit they name their cars generally christen them after women, possibly their mothers judging from the top names; Gertie, Doris and Bertha, or unreachable fantasy figures such as Buffy, Raquel and Pammy.
