THE unveiling at the Reebok today of Youri Djorkaeff could help cement Michael Ricketts' place in the England squad.

That is the view of Wanderers' keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen, who believes the Frenchman can steer the club away from the drop zone.

Djorkaeff is due to be unveiled after signing a deal until the end of the season following his release from Kaiserslautern.

"We are lucky that Youri has signed for us because I heard there were other teams interested in him," Jaaskelainen said on his website, www.bigfanof.com.

"He is a player who likes to play either behind the front two or as one of the front two.

"Hopefully he will be able to get a few goals for us. He's world class and just the type we need. It will have a positive effect on all the players here.

"It will be nice to have a second man alongside Michael Ricketts. Youri's experience will rub off on Michael and that can only be good for him. He'll be able to learn a lot.

"Youri wants to play first-team football and I think he has made the right move coming here to one of the best leagues in the world."

Ricketts, meanwhile, says he will treasure the memory of making his England debut in the 1-1 draw in Holland in midweek and is looking forward to getting another chance to shine.

On his personal website, the happy Wanderer says: "My aim was to go out there and make a good impression and, while I didn't set the world alight I'm just pleased to have got my first cap and I feel I'm worthy of another chance.

"I had a few nerves during the game at times, especially when my first pass went off target, but they soon wore off and I tried to enjoy the experience as much as possible.

"Looking back at the way the game went, I would have preferred to have come on as a substitute because there were more chances in the second half, but then you can't beat starting a game.

"I knew I'd probably only play a half, but I was disappointed to come off. Having said that, in a way I was actually pleased to come off because I've been playing a lot recently and I was feeling quite tired.

"I spoke to my family straight after the game and they said I'd done alright and that was a boost for me.

"Looking ahead, I'd obviously like to play for England again, but I won't be too disappointed if I'm not called up for the summer. I'm sure my time will come and next time I will be less nervous."
